About the Game

First, let me tell you about our team and the general format for our trivia game play.  Our core team consist of 5 people, although we've invited other to join us from time to time. Of those 5 people, we can consistently assume 4 will be available any  Wednesday evening.  One of our strengths is that our team is extremely diverse... although within a certain color range.  We have gay and straight, cis and trans, and most importantly, Boomers, X-ers and a Millennial.  

Our Quizmaster is an old hippy who makes up the questions himself, although he does steal from television quiz shows on occasion.  He sincerely believes that the Quizmaster is Always right, but we've managed to talk him around to our answer a couple of times and so we think he's Mostly right.

There are 4 rounds of 5 questions, with each increasing point totals for each successively harder question.  First round is worth 15 points, second and third rounds are each worth 20 points and the fourth round is worth 25 points.  During regular play you can only gain points, so it's worth guessing an answer; it might be right.  There is a final question, which you can bet up to 20 of your points on depending on how confident you are about your answer and how bold you need to be to make the top three.  You don't need to wager your points until after you know the question.  The bar offers the top three teams gift cards ($30, $20, $10), so it's worth it to be in the top three.

Each round has at least one question we can expect each week.  The first round will have a  birthyear question for some "celebrity," and I use that term loosely.  Some weeks it's an actor from a series of insurance commercials.  That question has graduated points.  Five points for hitting it dead on and losing one point for each year you are off.  Second round is the 4 point Musicals question.  He plays a deeper cut from a Broadway musical and gives us the year and we have to guess the Musical.  Third round always has a handout with 5 questions where the answers are made up of the letters in our birthday person's name and each of those questions is 1 point each.  In the final round, there will always be a 5 point movie line from some movie, typically before 1975.  We get a straight reading of the line and the year the movie came out.  The final round has also gotten another constant with the 3 point question always being science (with the crowd yelling SCIENCE) in return.
